THE ORIGIN
OF THE NAME CHRIST
During the First Century no one
had last
names as we do now.
The second name was inserted to
satisfy
both the Eastern and Western
schools of
Christianity.
In 325 A.D., Constantine the
emperor of
Rome adopted Greek orthodox
Christianity and then ordained
it the
universal (Gr. Katholicos)
religion
through-out the Empire.
Kristoy is the greekized form of
the Sanscrit word Krishna
meaning
Sacred One and One radiating the
Light of God. Light was later
changed
by translators to Sun and then
to Son.
The word Christ,
Christos, the Greek
equivalent
of the Hebrew word
Messias,
means
anointed.
Anointed means: to choose by or
as if by
divine election; also :
to designate as if
were
supposed to be anointed for
their
respective
offices; now, the Christ, or
the
Messias,
combined this threefold
dignity
in His Person.
The Greeks and Romans understood
little
or
nothing about the import of the
word
anointed;
to them it did not convey any
sacred
conception. Hence they
substituted
Chrestus, or "excellent",
for
instead
of "Christians."
Thus the term Christ or
Messias
was a
title rather than a proper name.
-Catholic Encyclopedia
Jesus Christ is a really a title
meaning
Anointed
Savior, and not the name of an
individual
person.
This explains why the Gnostics
believed
Jesus to be the Christ Spirit,
or the
anointing Holy Spirit and not a
person
according to Elaine Pagels.
John the Baptist, was baptized
by the
Holy Spirit on the Jordan River,
when
God anointed Him with the Holy
Spirit.
Baptize means:
2 a
: to purify or cleanse
spiritually especially by a
purging
-Webster
John was not Jesus or the Holy
Spirit
but did have access to It. The
other
Apostles and disciples also were
baptized, initiated, anointed by
the Holy
Spirit. No person Jesus was
found by
Josephus only John, whom he
lived with
as an Essene.
No one person can personify the
infinity
of God.
